Salt and Pepper Roots Music Series kicks off Season 7 tonight in Florence

The Salt and Pepper Music Series will kick off its seventh season at 7 p.m. tonight (Friday, October 28) at UNA’s The Mane Room in downtown Florence.

The series is presented quarterly in partnership with The Music Preservation Society, which organizes the annual W.C. Handy Music Festival, and The Alabama Folklife Association (AFA), a partner of the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA).

The series has also received a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, as well as the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Season 7 of the Salt & Pepper series is continuing to focus on Traditional and Roots Music and its influence on the Muscle Shoals music industry’s contributions to the American soundtrack.

Gospel, soul, blues, country, rock & roll and folk music are the roots of the American soundtrack and are all very much considered a part of the “sound of the Shoals.”

Tonight’s event will feature the “Deep Roots of Celtic Music and Blues” with performances from Chambless & Muse, Max Russell, and Sugar Harp.

General admission tickets are $15 and are available in advance from Counts Brothers Music in Muscle Shoals, Ye Ole General Store in Florence, and WZZA in Tuscumbia, or purchase online on Eventbrite. Tickets at the door will be $20.

Businesses or organizatons interested in sponsoring future installents of the series may contact Debbie Dixon 256-443-1297.
