Local events will mark National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

The U.S. Department of Justice will join communities nationwide this week in observing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, highlighting victims’ rights, protections and services.

This year’s theme is “Rights, access, equity, for all victims.”

The Shoals chapter of VOCAL (Victims of Crime and Leniency) will hold their annual candlelight vigil on Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 7 p.m. at Wilson Park in downtown Florence. (In the event of rain, the vigil will be held at First Baptist Church of Florence, 2235 Wood Avenue.)

The keynote speaker will be Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.

Other speakers will include Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly, along with representatives from the Cramer Children’s Center, Safeplace of Northwest Alabama, The Healing Place, One Place of the Shoals, the Lauderdale County Children’s Policy Council, Shoals Homicide Survivors, and VOCAL.

The vigil is open to the public.

On Saturday, April 30, the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office will host a Victim Service Providers’ Resource Fair at Wilson Park.

Hours will be 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
