Rogersville garbage collection switches to county waste department

Effective this month, garbage collection service for the Town of Rogersville has switched from Waste Management to the Lauderdale County Solid Waste Department.

The monthly garbage collection fee will increase from $10 per month to $14 per month (residential and business).

Waste Management was set to increase their fee to the town, which officials said would have resulted in a $12 per month increase (to $22) per household.

Garbage collection fees will begin appearing on customers’ electricity bills instead of their water bills. Garbage pickup will continue to be on Tuesdays.

The Lauderdale County Solid Waste Department asks that all garbage carts be placed at the end of the driveway by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.

Each household has been provided one numbered, 95-gallon residential garbage container at no cost. The carts are the property of the County and will remain at the home in the event the resident moves.

Additional containers are available for a $55 refundable deposit. This deposit must be paid in advance of delivery by check, cash or money order. Mail deposits to the Lauderdale County Solid Waste Department, PO Box 1059, Florence, AL 35631, or bring it to the main office located at 5100 Highway 157, Florence.

There is no additional monthly charge for up to three containers. If you require four or more containers, there will be an additional charge of $14 per month, per cart.

According to Lauderdale County Solid Waste Director Tom Smith, “Bagged household garbage only should be placed in garbage carts. The garbage containers should not be overloaded, and please do not put in hot ash, liquids, hazardous materials, bio-hazards, cardboard, any type of yard waste, batteries or any type of construction material, including paint cans containing wet paint.”

Household garbage placed outside of the garbage carts will not be collected. The county does not offer curbside pickup (limbs, brush, furniture, etc. left beside the curb).
